Ganne Yehoshua Park
About Ganne Yehoshua Park
In the early days of the State of Israel, Ben-Gurion decided to allocate the park area to the Tel Aviv municipality for one Pound per acre, and that in the area on both sides of the Yarkon no houses will be built and the area will remain open and will be the center of the city’s green areas. In 1969, the development of HaYarkon Park was started. The Hayarkon Park Company was established in 1973 and is named Ganei Yehoshua – after Yehoshua Rabinowitz , Tel Aviv Mayor 1969-1974. The total area of the park is approximately 3,800 acres from the Geha Road in the east to the seafront in the west.
The Ganei Yehoshua Park’s active area covers 3,800 acres, of which 2,600 acres are developed and 1,200 acres of woods, beds, flowers and shrubs and other various public welfare facilities. The Yarkon River winds 28 km from Rosh Ha’ayin Springs to its Mediterranean estuary.
By 1954, with the establishment of the “Yarkon Negev” line, 100 million cubic meters per year were flowing in the channel, most of which are now mostly flowing to the western Negev. The creek is the value of nature and the central landscape of the park and in fact forms the backbone of the park. Tens of thousands of visitors come to the park every week, choosing to spend time in the nature near their home and find, each one, their own personal experience, those in sports and boating and those in leisure and entertainment.
Ganei Yehoshua Park has become the largest and most famous park in Israel over the years. Today, the company also operates Menachem Begin Park in the south of the city and since 2003 also the nature parks in abu Kabir south neighborhood. The park offers plenty of attractions and activities for anyone of any age.
The development and preservation of the park as an open and green natural space for the enjoyment of visitors to the park is the main objective of the park’s open policy in the past, present and future.
